Assistant Professor in Art History, New Mexico State University
New Mexico State University (NMSU) in Las Cruces, NM is seeking a full-time College Assistant Professor in Art History.
The Department of Art offers BA degrees in Studio Art and Art History, BFA degrees in studio art and museum conservation, an MA degree in Art History and an MFA in Studio Art. NMSU also offers a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching an annual 4/4 course load; advising undergraduate students; service to the department, college, university and profession and outreach.
The successful applicant will collaborate with current faculty in the redesign, updating and teaching of Gen. Ed survey courses (Art Appreciation and History of Art I & II) to incorporate current conversations around representation as well as the perspectives of our diverse students and the university’s rich museum collections.
Requirements
A Ph.D. in Art History, Visual Studies or a related field is required. Candidates must show a demonstrable knowledge of the history of global theoretical discourses within art and a knowledge of historical and contemporary art and craft practices.
Of special interest candidates with special knowledge in Mexican art history, indigenous art history, and/or global modernisms. Applicants who bring knowledge of the visual and artistic cultures and the lived experiences of the complex Borderplex region in which NMSU is located are especially welcome. Teaching experience beyond the graduate assistantship, and experience with online teaching preferred.
