Conference

The call is open for researchers who wish to present a paper in the AGENART virtual seminar on Queenship, Art and Material Culture during the 2024-2025 academic year.

The AGENART seminar is organized by members of the research project headed by M. Cruz de Carlos Varona at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. The team is dedicated to the investigating the agency in artistic production of women of the Spanish branch of the Habsburg dynasty during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Aesthetic, political, religious, and social questions are discussed from the perspective of methodologies from the history of art, history and historical anthropology. Seminars so far have looked at Isabel de Valois, Margarita de Austria, Isabel Clara Eugenia, Isabel de Borbón and Mariana de Neoburgo, wives, daughters and/or sisters of kings, who were on occasions themselves called to govern.

The seminar is held online, by video conference, and offers researchers in the field a forum for formation and debate. The call is directed particularly at younger researchers studying for a master’s or doctorate degree.

Topics

In accordance with the research remit of AGENART, proposals are invited which are centered on Queenship and those which have a particular focus on art and material culture in the context of this theme.

Dates

From the end of October, the dates of the seminars will be agreed with each speaker. Each seminar will last for two hours (comprising a paper of approximately one hour, followed by discussion)
